Project Designer designs, manages and performs within project teams in a self-directed manner in all aspects of the Interior Design process including preparation of materials, pre-design, schematic design, design development, contract documentation and construction administration activities within an established budget with specific scheduling, site and programmatic requirements. May act in a team leader capacity in the absence of a project manager. The Project Designer consistently leads multiple small to medium sized projects (depending upon the scope and scale) in conjunction with Senior Leadership.
Experience & Education
- Bachelor/Master Degree in Interior Design or Architecture from a CIDA-accredited or NAAB-accredited program
- Remain educated through relevant continuing education-type opportunities
- Seek out and attend advanced learning/educational opportunities and courses related to areas of design and management
- Minimum 8+ years of post-graduate professional Design experience, preferably within commercial design
Design
- Licensed or registered Interior Designer preferred
- Advanced experience in scope review, budget analysis, information gathering, basic & advanced programming
- Advanced knowledge in site surveys, state and local code requirements/research methods, ADA requirements, occupancy types, occupant load calculations, egress planning, plumbing fixture counts/code review
- Advanced experience in visioning, concept development and space planning
- Advanced understanding and knowledge of elements and principles of design, color and materials
- Advanced experience with construction materials and sourcing FF&E specifications/providers
- Advanced understanding of proper acoustic and lighting planning and specifications
- Advanced experience in project design specifications, construction documentation production and construction administration
- Advanced skills in 3D rendering
Project Management
- Basic understanding of contract writing/management, project scheduling, billing process and fee management
- Intermediate scope, budget and schedule management skills
- Intermediate experience with budget development, cost analysis, and value engineering
- Intermediate experience in effectively handle inquiries of client regarding services of the firm
- Intermediate experience with the bidding process, documentation and leveling
Client/Team Management
- Intermediate experience managing and leading successful projects and/or teams
- Intermediate experience interfacing with clients, contractors, agencies, as well as engineering and specialty consultants
- Intermediate experience in leading client and team meetings/presentations
- Demonstrates willingness and ability to mentor and develop project team members
- Intermediate experience managing and coordinating the workload of teams and providing leadership of team activities.
- Ability to communicate client objectives, provide constructive feedback and mentoring, and identify and share lessons learned with teams.
